GPS2017They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we couldn’t agree more. With the Dell EMC Partner Program in its exciting infancy, at just three months old, Global Partner Summit (GPS, GPS2017) at Dell EMC World 2017 made it clearer than ever that we have a village behind our partners and the programs designed to enable success.

From a surprise visit by Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, Dell Technologies to executive support in the many breakouts, it’s clear that we’re poised to realize #extraordinary together.

Check out some of the highlights from GPS2017

GPS General SessionWith fantastic enthusiasm, the stage was set for an extraordinary GPS thanks to an energetic performance by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, an update on the Dell EMC Partner Program and a few special guests including Michael Dell, Jay Snyder, senior vice president, Global Alliances, Service Providers and Industries and Joyce Mullen, senior vice president and general manager, OEM and Internet of Things (IoT) Solutions.

Regional Breakout Sessions – Partners from each region had the opportunity to gather together to learn more about key topics and priorities specific to each region.  Going deeper into topics such as sales engagement, collaboration, services, workforce transformation and IT transformation, Partners were able to hear first-hand Dell EMC’s vision.  The partner program was been built from Partner feedback and the regional breakouts were a great way to continue to conversation.

Celebrating SuccessGlobal Partner Summit just isn’t complete without recognizing our extraordinary partners that are enabling customers to realize their transformation journeys.

Digital Marketing RealizedAnswering one of our most common requests, Cheryl Cook, senior vice president, Global Channels Marketing, led a “Making Digital Marketing Real for Dell EMC Partners” breakout session to help partners drive marketing efforts, build awareness of Dell EMC solutions and their individual capabilities and leverage the four transformations highlighted throughout the week and the year to come – Digital, IT, Workforce and Security.

Creating HEROESLaunched at GPS2017, Dell EMC announced the Dell EMC Heroes Program, a program designed to connect partner SE’s with Dell EMC’s technology. With three key elements, the Heroes Exchange, Partner Advisory Boards and a Partner CTO Summit, Heroes will leverage the power of our extraordinary partner community and its technical expertise.

Global Alliances OpportunitiesJay Snyder set the stage for the incredible opportunities available to our Global Alliance, Service Provider and Industry partners. He highlighted the five key tenants critical to success including: Money, Resources, Solutions, Consumption Models and having a Partner Plan.

#1 in Everything, Including OEMJoyce Mullen welcomed OEM Partners to their first Global Partner Summit. In an exciting moment onstage, she revealed the Dell EMC is the #1 OEM Provider Worldwide*, and talked about the enormous opportunity that OEM Partners have ahead.

As John Byrne, President, Dell EMC Global Channels put it, “We have ambitions to be Number 1.” And with everything we saw at #GPS2017, it’s clear that we’re on the path to an extraordinary partner program and achieving that goal.

Enterprise Moves to the Cloud

During his Global Partner Summit keynote, John Byrne—Dell EMC President, Global Channels—announced the addition of Virtustream Enterprise Cloud to the Dell EMC Partner Program. This will provide Dell EMC channel partners with full Dell EMC Partner Program benefits when they sell Virtustream offerings, giving them the opportunity to accelerate their customers’ IT transformation with Virtustream Enterprise Cloud and Virtustream Storage Cloud.

John Byrne addresses the Global Partner Summit crowd.

Virtustream Delivers Cloud Performance at Enterprise Scale

Virtustream, the enterprise-class cloud company and a Dell Technologies business, is trusted by organizations worldwide to migrate and run their mission-critical applications in the cloud. “When you think Virtustream, think public cloud economics and agility— with private cloud performance, availability and security,” Byrne shared.

Many general purpose clouds are designed for cloud-native applications; but may struggle with the support, management and performance of mission critical applications like ERP for manufacturing and EMR for healthcare.

Virtustream Enterprise Cloud was designed to run complex business applications in a truly modern, multi-tenant hosting architecture, with guaranteed SLAs for performance and availability, defense in depth security and superior economics. This “application-first” approach—informed by years of enterprise application experience—inspired the creation of the Virtustream Enterprise Cloud platform.

In December 2016, Dell EMC made Virtustream Storage Cloud—Virtustream’s hyper-scale object storage platform— available to all of its Partners in an effort to respond to growing customer demand for enterprise-class cloud storage. The expanded Dell EMC portfolio enabled Partners to find great success engaging in new conversations with their Dell EMC storage and data protection customers. In fact, Dell EMC Partners have driven more than 50 new customer logos for Virtustream Storage Cloud since this launch.

Analysts agree that cloud adoption has reached a tipping point:  According to Gartner 88% of organizations have a “cloud first” strategy—and IDC estimates that 80% of organizations will have a hybrid architecture in place by 2020.

This means that your customers are having the cloud conversation. Consider Virtustream Enterprise Cloud for your customers’ and prospects’ cloud needs and mission-critical applications. And, introduce Virtustream Storage Cloud, which was built from the ground up for long term retention of data and co-engineered with Dell EMC solutions, to all Dell EMC customers who would benefit from an enterprise-class cloud platform for Archive and Long Term Retention.

Learn how to expand your revenue opportunities and bring more customers to the cloud with Virtustream. Visit the Virtustream Enablement Center and review the FAQ to learn more about partnering with Virtustream.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers kicked off the Scottish-themed session with incredible energy.

Just three months after officially launching the Dell EMC Partner Program, this week at the 2017 Dell EMC Global Partner Summit in Las Vegas, John Byrne, President, Dell EMC Global Channels, unveiled his vision for the Global Channels organization.

“Make no mistake: we have ambitions to be Number 1. We want to be the best and the biggest Channel player in our industry,” Byrne revealed. “And you want to know a secret? I know we’re going to do it.”

The Dell EMC Partner community is already putting points on the board and seeing impressive wins in its short time as a combined community, as evident in part from the multi-million dollar Partner wins Byrne spotlighted on the main stage.

“We promised you Simple. Predictable. And Profitable,” he reminded the audience. “But talk is cheap. Let’s see how we’re doing.”

Since February, the Dell EMC Partner Program has rolled out one, unified program, one Partner Portal, Rules of Engagement, simplified rebates, deal registration, and made an incremental $150 million investment in incentives, among other initiatives.

See how the Dell EMC Partner Program is structured to deliver Simple. Predictable. Profitable.™

The Dell EMC Partner Program team continues to listen to and work with Partners, and new updates were announced on today’s GPS main stage – all designed to take cost and friction out of Partners’ selling motions, and make them even more successful.

  • Infrastructure Incumbency Expansion to include Server and Networking in addition to Storage
    • Based on historical look-back for revenue and deal registration
    • Goes live May 22
    • For Commercial Segment
  • Client Incumbency
    • Forward-looking on net-new business (new customers or new business on inactive accounts)
    • Goes live May 22
    • For Commercial Segment
  • Virtustream Joins the Partner Program
    • Partners now can sell Dell Technologies’ enterprise-class public cloud consumption with private cloud performance, availability and security… at scale
    • Front-end margin, Tier credits, top rebate eligibility
    • Effective immediately
  • Flexible Consumption Models
    • Cloud Flex for VxRail and XC Series
    • Flex On Demand for all storage platforms
    • Both models profit-share, give Tier credit, and are subject to Incumbency on commercial accounts
  •  Client as a Service
    • Latest Dell PC hardware, peripherals, software
    • Single price per seat, per month
    • Coming soon

Dell also reminded Partners of Working Capital Solutions, the company’s offer of extended payment terms and increased credit capacity to enable Partners to grow their business faster. “Partners using Working Capital Solutions are growing at 24% premium versus Partners who aren’t,” Byrne revealed.

Some special guests joined the GPS stage, including Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, Dell Technologies;  Joyce Mullen, senior vice president and general manager, OEM and IoT Solutions, and Jay Snyder, senior vice president of Global Alliances, Service Providers and Industries.

Michael Dell: “The Channel Matters to Me Personally”

Dell Technologies’ chairman Michael Dell’s commitment to the Channel is well-documented. Dell joined Byrne on the GPS main stage, and spoke about the opportunity he sees for Partners.

“We have the strongest and broadest Partner community in the world,” Dell said. “There are enormous cross-selling opportunities across the full portfolio – those are opportunities to make meaningful impacts for our customers.”

Michael Dell and John Byrne stress the importance of the Dell EMC Partners.

Joyce Mullen: “Dell EMC is the #1 OEM Provider Worldwide”

Mullen shared the news with the standing-room-only crowd that Dell EMC is now the number one OEM provider worldwide.* “We didn’t get here alone,” Mullen said. “Dell EMC OEM Partners were critical in this accomplishment, and will play an enormous role in extending this lead in the future.”

Jay Snyder: Global Alliances Seizes the Opportunity with Alignment

Global Alliances and their Partners have already touched 20% of the Core Enterprise Dell EMC deals to-date, representing 50% of the Fortune 500 companies. Snyder said they’re just getting started.

With commitment from the highest levels of the company; alignment across the selling teams and rich incentives for service providers and strategic outsourcers, and the confidence to aggressively attack the market, Snyder said, “We’re poised to do phenomenal things in FY18 and beyond.”

“This opportunity that’s at our doorstep is once-in-a-lifetime. This Program is being built for you and with you,” Byrne said. “Your success matters. You matter. We’re a team. Let’s realize extraordinary together.”

Meet the Dell EMC Partner Program Leaders: John Byrne

Meet the Program Leaders

It’s been just over one month since we officially launched the Dell EMC Partner Program. Partners … You’ve attended the launch broadcast. You’re getting trained and enabled. And, you’re seizing what John Byrne pointed to as the “spectacular opportunities” afforded by the innovative Dell EMC Partner Program. Our Meet the Leaders series gives you a chance to get to know the Dell EMC channel executives who designed the Dell EMC Partner Program—individuals who are passionate champions of the Program’s core tenets: Simple. Predictable. Profitable.TM

Meet John Byrne – President, Dell EMC Global Channels

How long have you worked with the channel partner community?

I’ve worked in or with the Channel for close to 24 years, and have spent more than 29 years focusing on overall technology sales. During the first part of my career I focused on EMEA, Greater China and USA. Then in 2007 I shifted my focus globally when I sold one of my channel companies to a Fortune 500 company. I then worked for that company in a sales capacity for a number of years before becoming their Chief Sales Officer and GM. Then I made the jump over to Dell mid-2015, and have been the head of Dell EMC Global Channels since September 2016. I’m loving every minute of this remarkable journey we are all on.

What most excites you about Dell EMC opportunity?

What’s not to be excited about? This is a unique moment in time and you can feel the excitement from our team, Partners, customers, and the press and analysts.

First, we have an unbelievable team. Every single person on this team is passionate, driven, has true channel DNA, want to win as a team and is ready to be extraordinary. So impressive.

For Partners, what’s particularly exciting is the ability to sell and work with the full Dell EMC portfolio. We’re leading in 15 Gartner Magic Quadrants, we’re number 1 in nearly everything that matters to the Modern Data Center: storage, server, data protection, networking … And did we mention we’re the fastest growing PC company on the planet? The list goes on and on.

As we’ve brought our legacy Dell and EMC Partner ecosystems together, Partners now have a world of opportunity at their fingertips. We know customers need and want digital transformation. We know Partners are experts in guiding and architecting the right path towards the Modern Data Center. And now, with Dell EMC, they have the best of everything—from the edge to the core to the cloud—to deliver REAL transformation for their end-users.

What most excites you about the Dell EMC Partner Program?

Easy: Together we are primed to “Go Bigger and Win Bigger” as a team.  I deeply respect that when Partners spend their dollars with us, they need to get a return on that investment. Certainly profit matters for the obvious reasons … Most businesses are not nonprofit; we’ve got to make money to exist. Profit is also something very personal though – it’s what lets us continue to innovate, to work with the best and brightest people, to provide for our loved ones and to create a safety net for leaner times.

That’s why it was essential to us—and personal to me—to see “Profitable” included in our Program’s core tenets, along with “Simple” and “Predictable.”

We’ve structured the Dell EMC Partner Program to be the most desirable, most innovative and most enviable program of its kind. We traveled the world speaking with our Partners to understand how we could take cost and friction out of their selling motions so that they can focus on the reason we’re all here: to sell. I’m immensely proud that we delivered on our promises. Today, Partners can earn 1.5X up to 8X what they were making with us before. That’s just an incredible ROI.

What do you see as the biggest opportunity for Dell EMC partners in 2017?

Of course selling the full portfolio is a huge opportunity. Dell EMC has award-winning products and we want our Partners selling more Lines of Business and making a lot of money both on the top and bottom line. The other pot of gold for Partners is Services. Whether Partners are delivering their own Services, or they want to augment with ours, we’ve got Partners covered. We don’t want to compete. We want our Partners to win… and win big.

Services are about bringing value to customers with Consulting, Deployment, Support and Education. With the new Dell EMC Partner Program, Partners will earn rebates by reselling. There’s real cash to be made in selling consulting and deployment… a boatload. Our Partners have choice in how and which Services they sell, but I think to get the full potential of the Dell EMC Partner Program, they’ve got to go with Services some way or another.

Meet the Program Leaders Byrne

John with his wife, Caroline, at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards in London.

So, please grow your top and bottom line, sell more Lines of Business, attach Services and bring net new business. Let’s light this one up, it’s one for the ages.

Do you have a favorite country, place or city to visit; and why?

Where to start? We love London as it was “home” for 13 years. So much history, so much culture, so many friends, so many pubs to meet mates and have fun… we just love going back. If I can chose another then it would be Japan; Tokyo specifically.  I fell in love with it the first time I went in 2007. What’s not to love? Great people, amazing culture, steeped in history, and the food is to die for.

What do you do for fun outside of Dell EMC?

Family time is precious. I spend as much time as possible with my wife and our twin girls. At their current age (~2.5 years) they are so much fun, you don’t want to miss a second of it. If not at work or at home, you will find me at the gym currently doing a lot of CrossFit. With all the travel, and getting older, you’ve got to keep in shape. Healthy body, healthy mind.  Oh and shouting on my soccer (or for my international friends – football) team.
